A member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Akaliro Kelechi Anderson, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Labour Party.
Anderson represents Umuahia North State Constituency and also chairs the Committee on Judiciary and Public Petitions.
He took the decision after what he described as unresolved internal conflicts within the APC in Abia State.
He said the party had been deeply divided with endless suspensions and counter-suspensions at different levels, which made it impossible to build unity.
Anderson was the only APC lawmaker elected into the Abia Assembly during the 2023 general elections.
Since his inauguration, he noted that he was not included in the activities of the party, either formally or informally, which left him feeling ignored.
After consultations with his supporters, he resolved to move to the Labour Party.
He explained that his choice was influenced by the development programmes of Governor Alex Otti, which he said reflect the aspirations of the people of Abia State.
His defection further weakens APC’s presence in the state and boosts the strength of the Labour Party, which already controls the government.
Anderson, known for his grassroots appeal and firm stance on public issues, said he made the move in the interest of his constituents and the future of the state.
