State governor hands over power to deputy
Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, has handed over power to his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila, as he proceeds on annual leave.
The transfer of authority was approved by the House of Assembly in accordance with section 190 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, enabling Obila to serve as Acting Governor during his absence.
Since assuming the role, Obila has focused on agriculture, stressing the importance of irrigation in raising crop yields and strengthening food security in Nigeria, West Africa, and the Sahel.
She made this known at the National and Regional Hand in Hand Investment Forum on Irrigation in Abuja, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation.
She explained that the meeting was set up to explore ways of improving agricultural productivity across the region.
Obila also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative in Agriculture, saying it fits with the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda being implemented under Governor Nwifuru.
The Acting Governor added that the state government is rolling out programmes to expand irrigation, assist farmers, and promote economic diversification through agriculture and job creation.
