Nyesom Wike, a former presidential aspirant, has revealed why he lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election in 2022.
The FCT MInister said his decision to allow supporters in Kano and Katsina to wear party uniforms affected his chances.
Wike, who finished second to Atiku Abubakar, explained that meetings held before the primaries worked against him.
He said key decisions at the residence of General Ali Gusau influenced the outcome of the party’s nomination.
The former governor claimed that attempts to secure withdrawals from other candidates did not succeed and that political arrangements, including promises of Senate positions, shaped how the primary unfolded.
Wike also suggested that experience and influence of some party leaders played a role in determining the results.
He maintained that these factors combined contributed to his loss despite his efforts to secure the party’s ticket.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Wike said: “I was going to win the 2022 PDP presidential primaries, but it turned out they were meeting in General Ali Gusau’s house.
“They told Saraki and Bala Mohammed to withdraw; they refused.
“The mistake I made was allowing my supporters in Kano and Katsina to wear our uniform.”
