Maryam Sanda has been sentenced to death by hanging for murdering her husband Bilyaminu Bello, son of former PDP national chairman, Mr Haliru Bello.
The death sentence was passed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu today 27th of January, 2020.
Sanda had stabbed her husband to death which led to the guilty verdict and her becoming overcome with weeping in the courtroom.
She had been promptly taken away by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the courtroom.
Sanda’s family members had wept as she was sentenced and whisked away. Her trial had extended for 3 years since November 2017 when she was charged with culpable homicide.
According to the charge sheet, Sanda was said to have stabbed her husband with broken bottles at about 3:50am.
She had pleaded not guilty to the crime.
She has since been defended by an activist on twitter who claimed that men are sometimes capable of enraging women to the point of violence.
