The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over what it describes as a renewed attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the opposition party amid shifting political alignments.
In a statement posted on X, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that plans are underway to stage a protest in Abuja aimed at influencing ongoing legal and political disputes within the party.
Abdullahi claimed the move follows an earlier failed attempt by APC-linked actors to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking “illegal actions” against the ADC after the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party.
“After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same,” he said.
He further alleged that a protest scheduled for Thursday, April 2, in Abuja is being sponsored by “a particularly notorious minister” to create public pressure on INEC.
“The plan is simple: a paid crowd, posturing as aggrieved party members, will take to the streets demanding ‘David Mark Must Go,’” Abdullahi said.
According to him, the move is intended to push the electoral body to recognise an individual he claimed had already resigned and been expelled from the ADC.
Describing the situation as part of a broader political strategy, Abdullahi added: “The plan by the ruling APC government to hijack the leadership of the ADC is real. If anything, it has assumed a new level of desperation in the past few days.”
He said the party would remain law-abiding but resist any attempt to undermine its structure through legal means, and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene.
“If they are not acting on his orders, President Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” he said.
There has been no official response from the APC or the federal government regarding the allegations.
