The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attempted to kill the opposition coalition by offering a bribe of three ministerial positions, Dockaysworld reports.
The allegation was made by outgoing ADC National Chairman and party founder, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, during the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Tuesday in Abuja.
The meeting also saw the formal inauguration of former Senate President, David Mark, as the new National Chairman.
According to Nwosu, the Tinubu-led government allegedly offered him three ministerial appointments, one for himself and two for nominees of his choice, to collapse the coalition of opposition figures, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, and ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
“They offered me ministerial slots—one for myself and two for people of my choice—but it was all aimed at killing the coalition,” Nwosu stated in his valedictory speech. “When that failed, they resorted to kidnappings and intimidation. Yet, we stood firm for Nigeria.”
He further accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying public funds to fuel sabotage efforts, including accommodating political actors in high-end hotels in Abuja. “They lodged political saboteurs in Abuja’s most expensive hotels. But we said no. ADC said no. We believe Nigeria needs a viable opposition to protect its democracy from sliding into a one-party fascist state,” he declared.
Nwosu praised the growth and resilience of the ADC, noting that the party had expanded rapidly despite lacking the advantages of incumbency or access to state resources.
“ADC has grown from a small bungalow into a political mansion,” he said. “We now have over 100 elected officials—28 senators, 46 House of Representatives members, and dozens of state lawmakers—without contesting a general election.”
The newly constituted caretaker committee of the party will be chaired by David Mark, with former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola appointed as Secretary. Other members include Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary and six Deputy National Chairmen representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
