Again, Boko Haram Penetrates More Military Hideouts, Kill Many Soldiers

Armed men believed to be members of Boko Haram and ISWAP launched fresh attacks on two military bases in Borno State, Nigeria, leading to the deaths of several soldiers and injuries to others.

The assaults occurred around midnight on Tuesday in Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area near the Cameroon border, and in Gajiram, a town in Nganzai Local Government Area.

During the attack in Rann, five soldiers were killed and six were injured, while troops in Gajiram managed to fight off the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

These attacks happened just hours after another group of terrorists stormed a military base in Marte, killing several soldiers and stealing weapons.

Local sources say the attackers used heavy and advanced weaponry, and although the military tried to resist, the scale of the assault was intense.

No official statement has been made by the military at this time.

In response, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, condemned the attacks and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, including troops, civilians, and two staff members of the Damboa Local Education Authority who were killed by an improvised explosive device while travelling to Maiduguri for an examination.

He spoke further on his government’s commitment to working with the federal authorities and security agencies to address the worsening security situation.

Governor Zulum urged residents to remain strong and prayerful, stating that despite the recent surge in attacks, the state would not back down in its fight against the 16-year-long insurgency.

He assured the people that this difficult period would pass and reaffirmed his support for the armed forces and volunteer fighters defending the region.
