The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has officially summoned the management of Air Peace over widespread complaints from passengers who have not received refunds for cancelled flights.
According to a notice issued on June 13, 2025, the airline is required to appear before the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on June 23 to explain the ongoing issues and provide evidence related to the complaints.
The FCCPC said it has received numerous reports from passengers across the country who were denied refunds even after Air Peace cancelled their scheduled flights.
These actions, according to the Commission, go against the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act of 2018, which guarantees passengers the right to timely refunds when services are not delivered as promised.
The Commission is demanding several documents from Air Peace, including a log of all refund-related complaints over the past year, a list of processed refunds, records of cancelled flights, and any steps taken to reduce the inconvenience faced by affected customers.
The Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, stated that failure to comply with the summons could lead to severe penalties, including fines or imprisonment, as stipulated in the law.
This development follows a recent incident involving Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who accused the airline of exploiting passengers.
Oshiomhole claimed he missed a flight due to what he described as extortion by airline staff, who allegedly demanded an extra ₦109,100 from him and dozens of other stranded passengers to get on a rescheduled flight.
Air Peace denied the accusation, saying the senator had arrived late, but Oshiomhole insisted he witnessed people being cleared for boarding despite arriving after him.
The FCCPC did not mention this incident directly in its summons, but the timing suggests the controversy may have influenced its decision to act.
