A Diamond training aircraft belonging to the Aviation Training School in Kwara State crash-landed at Ilorin International Airport.
The incident took place at 5:28 pm on Friday during a routine simulated instrument approach on Runway 05.
Two people were injured as a result of the incident.
The aircraft lost control during the approach and veered off the runway, coming to rest on a grassy area near the tarmac.
Only two people were onboard at the time, and both sustained serious injuries.
Medical officials, supported by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, quickly moved the injured individuals to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) initiated a full-scale investigation.
A team from Abuja is being sent to Ilorin to examine the crash site.
Their work will involve collecting physical evidence, reviewing flight and maintenance records, and speaking with witnesses to find out what caused the crash.
The NSIB has asked the public to wait for verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed details.
The agency assured Nigerians that a detailed and independent investigation will be carried out to help improve aviation safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
