Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has handed over the political structure and leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
This handover took place during a meeting of APC stakeholders at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo.
The event marked Governor Eno’s first official appearance at an APC gathering since his recent defection to the party.
Addressing party leaders, Eno called for cooperation and unity, urging members from ward to state level to accept the merger and work together.
He stressed that his entrance into the party should not be seen as a takeover but as a fresh opportunity for collaboration and development.
Governor Eno stated that he would work closely with the APC leadership and contribute actively to the party’s growth, assuring the Senate President and stakeholders of his willingness to build a stronger and more united political front for the benefit of Akwa Ibom people.
Senator Akpabio, while formally transferring leadership of the party to Governor Eno, praised his efforts in bringing peace and stability to the state.
He described the Governor as someone with foresight and urged all party members to support the merger.
Akpabio said his role as Senate President was to protect Akwa Ibom’s interest and not to overshadow the Governor.
During the meeting, Akpabio also introduced a modified party slogan aimed at promoting unity, love, and development in the state.
The APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, expressed support for Governor Eno, acknowledging the progress made under his leadership.
He encouraged members to align with the Governor’s direction to ensure the party thrives.
