Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has revealed that all coalition leaders will support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dockaysworld reports.
The two-term governor of Rivers State made the disclosure in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Amaechi declared that the coalition’s resolve is to conduct a transparent, free, and fair primary, with collective support for the winner.
“The moment anybody emerges from the primary, all of us will support; that’s the agreement. We insist on a free and fair, transparent primary,” he stated.
His comments come amid growing speculation over internal crisis in the newly formed coalition. There is allegedly concern particularly whether Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer Peter Obi will remain in the group should he fail to secure the ADC ticket.
Dockaysworld understands that Obi is yet to formally withdraw from the Labour Party.
Amaechi also used the opportunity to criticize the economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, lamenting worsening hunger and poverty across the country.
“This government has inflicted untold hardship on Nigerians,” he said, urging citizens, particularly in Rivers State, to register with the ADC and vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
The ADC was recently adopted as the platform for an opposition coalition formed to challenge the re-election of Tinubu.
Politicians in the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, and former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai.
