APC announces date for NEC meeting

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set July 24 as the date for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to choose a new national chairman.

This was confirmed after an emergency session held by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday at its national headquarters in Abuja.

The decision follows the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down as national chairman last Friday.

His departure caught many in the party off guard.

After Ganduje left, his deputy from the northern region stepped in as acting chairman to manage party affairs.

Speaking after the meeting, the APC deputy national secretary, Festus Fuanter, said the party has already informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the NEC meeting.

According to him, the upcoming gathering will provide an opportunity for members of the NEC to formally pick a new chairman to lead the party.
