APC chieftain killed

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki is dead.

He was killed by suspected bandits early Saturday morning.

The attack took place on the Gusau–Tsafe highway near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area while Moriki was travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.

Before the attack, Moriki had attended a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

The APC’s state chapter confirmed his death and described it as a major loss to the party and the people of Zamfara.

Moriki, aged 62, held several important political positions, including Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director General of a state agency, and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification.

He also ran for the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in the 2023 elections.

He is survived by three wives and several children.

Party officials described him as a loyal member and a public servant committed to humanitarian work and community development.
