The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi of posing a serious threat to Nigeria’s unity and development, following their involvement in the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Dockaysworld reports that the ruling party made the claim in response to comments by El-Rufai, who warned in a recent interview that Nigeria would be in danger if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is re-elected in 2027.
Reacting in a statement issued on Tuesday by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party condemned what it described as the hijacking of the ADC platform by opposition figures seeking to unseat the Tinubu administration through what it called “an unholy alliance.”
“The decision of Atiku and El-Rufai to take over the ADC structure, in collaboration with Peter Obi and others, is not only politically opportunistic but a grave danger to Nigeria’s peace and progress,” Morka stated.
The APC alleged that following their defeat in the 2023 presidential election, the trio of Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai have abandoned their earlier reform agendas and are now unified only by their shared resentment for President Tinubu’s policies.
“In a classic display of hypocrisy, Atiku and Obi, who themselves campaigned on reform platforms, have now turned against the very policies they once promised to Nigerians, simply because they lost at the polls,” Morka said. “El-Rufai, Atiku, and their hijacked ADC constitute a clear and present threat to the unity, peace, and progress of our nation.”
The ADC recently emerged as the platform for an opposition coalition seeking to challenge the dominance of the APC in the 2027 general elections.
