Muhammed Babangida Denies Rejecting Tinubu’s Appointment, Accepts Role at Bank of Agriculture.
Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president General Ibrahim Babangida, has denied rumours that he rejected his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).
Babangida said the reports were false and meant to mislead the public, Dockaysworld reports.
In a statement issued on Monday, Babangida confirmed that he had accepted the appointment with gratitude.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government,” the statement read. “He extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him.”
The presidency had named Babangida in a list of new appointments released last Friday. Other key appointments included Lydia Kalat Musa (Chairperson, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority), Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council), and Sanusi Musa (Chairman, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution), among others.
Babangida’s camp described the online rumours as an attempt to create tension and damage the image of both the appointee and the Tinubu administration. They also warned that the individuals behind the fake stories would be identified and prosecuted.
“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice,” the statement added.
