Ballon d’Or voting in full: The points each player scored as Lionel Messi claims award

Barcelona wizard Messi poked a gong ahead of rival Cristiano Ronaldo – as he completed a stunning 2019 with the famous trophy, to go alongside the ones he collected in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Messi pipped Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk to the prize – with the Argentine picking up 686 voting points to the centre back’s 679.

Van Dijk picked up the most votes from the European and Asian continents, with Messi topping the charts in each of the other four confederation areas.

Reds winger Sadio Mane was Africa’s second favourite player, with Merseyside teammate Alisson breaching the top five in North America.
