Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bambu, was reportedly abducted by suspected bandits in his hometown of Bagudo on Friday evening.
Eyewitnesses said gunmen, believed to be members of the Lakurawa terror group, stormed the area and forcibly took the lawmaker away, sparking fear and confusion among residents.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed receiving the initial reports of the abduction.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state,” he said.
Idris added that the government is taking immediate action to resolve the situation.
“Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position. I can assure you that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure he is released safely,” he stated.
Authorities have reportedly mobilised security agencies to Bagudo to rescue Bambu and apprehend the attackers.
The search operation is ongoing, with security personnel combing surrounding areas for any trace of the lawmaker or the bandits.
Residents in Bagudo described a tense atmosphere following the abduction, as locals remain on high alert and fear further attacks in the area.
