Bashir El-Rufai Backs Peter Obi to Defeat Tinubu in 2027

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has backed Labour Party’s Peter Obi to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, Dockaysworld reports.

Taking to social media platform X on Thursday, Bashir acknowledged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a force but argued that Obi’s massive youth-driven support base and widespread popularity pose a more formidable challenge in the coming election.

“Atiku is a force to be reckoned with. He also feels the stars have finally aligned in his favour,” Bashir wrote. “And although 2019 is thought to have been his best shot, this may be one of those ‘moment-meets-the-man’ instances.”

However, he said that Obi’s influence, driven by what he described as “cult-like followership”, is likely to alter the norm.

“The sheer force of Obi’s numbers and cult-like followership brings a challenge. His appeal across the youth and this younger generation is one profound aspect of his leverage,” he stated.

Bashir further said that if Obi emerges as the flag bearer of the opposition coalition with a strong Northern running mate, he would defeat President Tinubu, whom he mockingly referred to as “Pablo,” before First Lady Remi Tinubu finishes her breakfast.
