BREAKING: Ahmad Lawan becomes Nigeria new Senate President(photos)

The Senator elect for Yobe state, Ahmad Lawan has emerged the new Senate President of the federal republic of Nigeria after the end of the tenure of the former senate president, Bukola Saraki. 

Mr Lawan got 79 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ali Ndume, who garnered 28 votes.

The Election of Senate President was held at the first session of the Senate on Tuesday.

Lawan is said to be backed by President Muhammadu Buhari. He was nominated by Senator elect Yahaya Abdullahi and seconded by Solomon Adeola Olamilekan who are representing Kebbi and Lagos State respectively.
