Breaking: ASUU declares 2 week strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has made a decision to embark on a two week strike after negotiations with the federal government didn’t yield fruit.

The comprehensive warning strike will be observed across all public universities in Nigeria.

The announcement was made on Sunday during a press briefing by the union’s National President, Professor Chris Piwuna, at the University of Abuja.

According to him, there was nothing substantial from the Federal Government to prevent the union from going ahead with its decision after the 14-day ultimatum issued on September 28 expired.

“Compatriots of the press, it is clear that there is nothing on ground to stop the implementation of ASUU-NEC’s resolution to begin a two-week warning strike,” Piwuna said.

He added that all ASUU branches have been directed to suspend academic activities from midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.

“The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting,” he stated.

The latest face-off between university lecturers and the Federal Government comes despite ongoing talks aimed at preventing another disruption in the nation’s tertiary education system.
