Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, is set to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The invitation follows an alleged attempt by security operatives to arrest the former governor on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly after he returned from Cairo, Egypt, aboard Egypt Air flight MS 877.
El-Rufai’s counsel, Ubong Esop Akpan, disclosed that the EFCC invitation had earlier been delivered to the former governor’s residence in December 2025 while he was abroad for medical treatment and rest.
According to the lawyer, El-Rufai’s team had been in contact with the anti-graft agency and had assured it of his readiness to honour the invitation upon his return to Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not issued an official statement on the invitation.
