Breaking: Hilda Baci officially wins Guinness world record for cooking largest pot of Jollof rice

Popular Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has broken another Guinness World Record, this time for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.

The cookout, held on September 12, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, produced 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds, 9 ounces) of the dish.

Guinness confirmed the achievement on Monday, describing it as a historic moment for Nigerian cuisine.

The record attempt was staged in partnership with food brand Gino as part of the Gino World Jollof Festival.

A massive six-metre-wide pot was used, and ingredients included hundreds of bags of rice, cartons of tomato concentrate, gallons of oil, onions and spices.

There was drama when the giant pot slipped slightly while being lifted for weighing, causing brief panic before it was secured.

Organizers also had to scale down the original plan of 250 bags of rice to about 200, to match the capacity of the weighing equipment.
