Breaking: Soldiers invade and shut down Daily Trust Offices in Borno and Abuja

Soldiers have allegedly invaded and shut down Daily Trust offices in Abuja and Maiduguri, Borno arresting the Editor and a reporter in the process.

According to reports, the soldiers allegedly arrested an Editor and reporter at the Maiduguri office while they carted off computer sets in the Abuja headquarters where they also asked staff to exit the newsroom.

Staff of the news platform arrested have been identified as Uthman Abubakar and a reporter, Ibrahim Sawab, though what led to this is not known, however the management of the news platform said “it may be connected with the lead story of Daily Trust on Sunday which focused on military operations in the North-East.”

“A major operation is on the way but we can’t divulge the details to you,” Daily Trust reported.

“More troops including ground troops, airmen and naval personnel are being deployed from different formations. They would join those on ground in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states for the operations,” the newspaper said citing a military source

According to a Daily Trust source, the Department of State Services had earlier sent operatives to the Maiduguri office to ask about the locations of the reporters who wrote the story in question but were told no one was around.

He added that the DSS operatives returned in more vehicles with Army and Civil Defense in tow. They repeated the inquiries and when the answer remained the same, they seized the phones of the security guards and forcefully entered the office.
