‘Buhari reveals only person that can satisfy Nigerians’
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda has revealed what late former President Muhammadu Buhari told him about leadership and the expectations of Nigerians before his death.
Radda said Buhari made it clear that no leader can fully satisfy Nigerians, that only God has the power to do so.
He shared this during a chat with journalists after Buhari’s burial in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The former president died in London on Sunday, July 13, and was buried with full military honours.
Radda recalled that after Buhari left office in 2023, he spent about two years in Daura, which gave them more time to interact and discuss the state of the country.
He described Buhari as a leader who spoke openly and often encouraged him to stay honest while doing his best.
According to Radda, Buhari told him that trying to please everyone is an impossible task, and that only God can meet the needs and desires of Nigerians.
He said Buhari often joked and laughed during their conversations, but also spoke from experience as someone who had carried the weight of the country.
The governor added that Buhari felt more at peace after leaving power, having endured many challenges during his time in office.
He said, “After he left office in 2023, he spent about two years in Daura, Katsina. In that period, I was fortunate to interact with him more frequently, discussing national issues. He was a jovial person who often made me laugh.
“He always told me, ‘Your Excellency, go and do your best and be honest as a leader. You cannot satisfy Nigerians; only God can do that.’
