Chelsea 2-1 AstonVilla: Blues get back to winning ways as Abraham scores on his return from injury

Mason Mount rifled home a cracking volley to give Frank Lampard his first managerial victory over Aston Villa at the fourth attempt.

Lamps suffered three defeats at the hands of Dean Smith’s side during his year in charge of Derby most crucially in May’s Championship play-off final.

Mount was in Lampard’s side that day in what was his final appearance for the Rams at the end of a season-long loan, while Chelsea ’s other goalscorer, Tammy Abraham, was in Smith’s as his loan spell at Villa came to a more fruitful end.

Abraham nodded the Blues ahead with a deft finish from Reece James’s cross early on before Trezeguet’s bizarre equaliser drew Villa level shortly before half-time.

The Egyptian headed Ahmed El Mohamady’s cross into the ground but it bounced up and hit his shins before bobbling past Tom Heaton.

Mount put Chelsea back in front early in the second half when Abraham chested Willian’s cross back into his path and only a brilliant save from Tom Heaton late on stopped the
Brazilian putting the cherry on the cake for the home side.
