Music business mogul and founder of Chocolate City Group, Audu Maikori, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was welcomed into the party by Governor Uba Sani during the Kaduna State Zone 3 Mega Rally held in Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna.
The rally also witnessed a major political shift as President Bola Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, received at least ten prominent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their supporters into the APC.
Among them were Senator Sunday Katung, Rep. Daniel Amos, and Ali Kalat, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Gbajabiamila hailed the move as a reflection of APC’s growing popularity, while Speaker Abbas Tajudeen described it as historic for Southern Kaduna, traditionally a PDP stronghold.
Audu Maikori, a lawyer, entrepreneur, and music executive, is best known as the founder of Chocolate City, one of Nigeria’s leading record labels that has produced stars like M.I Abaga and Ice Prince.
He has previously had a complex relationship with the Kaduna State government, notably clashing with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai over comments on the Southern Kaduna crisis, which led to his arrest at the time.
Maikori would later secure a judgement at the courts against the then government over his claim that his human rights were infringed upon.
He has however displayed a better synergy with the Uba Sani administration and is expected to present himself for political position in the near future with his new political turn.
