Coronavirus: Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi tests positive as team self-isolates

Chelsea have confirmed that England international Callum Hudson-Odoi has tested positive for coronavirus.

But Despite the positive test, Chelsea said the 19-year-old was “doing well”.

The news comes less than 24 hours after Arsenal announced on Thursday
evening that manager Mikel Arteta had also tested positive for Covid-19 as football faces a crisis over the deadly virus.

Chelsea ‘s first-team squad, coaching staff and some members of the club’s backroom staff are to self-isolate
after Hudson-Odoi’s positive test result was confirmed on Thursday night.

A statement published on Chelsea’s website read:

“Chelsea men’s team player Callum Hudson-Odoi had a positive test result for Coronavirus returned this evening.

“Chelsea personnel who had recent close contact with the player in the men’s team building will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines.

“These will include initially the full men’s team squad, coaching staff and a number of backroom staff.

“It is expected that those who did not have close contact with Callum will return to work in the coming days.”

Chelsea’s training ground is to be partially closed following the announcement of Hudson-Odoi’s positive test.
