The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Abuja has barred the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and its members from going on strike from January 12.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Emmanuel Subilim, followed an ex parte application filed by the Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation.
The defendants, NARD, its National President Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleman, and Secretary General Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim are restrained from calling, organizing, or participating in any industrial action until the matter is heard on January 21.
Justice Subilim said: “An interim order of injunction is hereby granted restraining the Defendants Respondents… from calling, directing, organizing, participating in or embarking upon any form of industrial action… from the 12th of January, 2026, until the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.”
The court directed the Federal Government to serve the order on NARD, giving the association seven days to apply to vary or discharge it.
The judge said the order was granted after considering affidavits and supporting documents presented by the government.
NARD had previously announced plans for an indefinite strike over the alleged failure of the government to implement agreed welfare demands.
Recall NARD called of a strike last year after reportedly negotiating with the Nigerian government. The new move comes amidst calls of unfulfilled promises.
