Reality TV star Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has finally spoken out following the death of her sister, Ruth, who passed away after an accident involving a Dangote truck.
In an Instagram live video, Phyna accused the company of being complicit in her sister’s death, alleging that the hospital was instructed to inject her fatally in order to cut costs. She further claimed that the family had only received ₦20 million from the company so far to cover burial expenses, with no additional compensation or support for Ruth’s children.
She stated that the ₦20 million agreement was reached without her involvement and suggested foul play in how the matter was handled.
Phyna admitted she had no concrete evidence but said her suspicions were based on what she could “deduce psychologically and mentally.” She also criticized what she described as delayed responses from the company until her sister’s eventual death.
The reality star warned that she was prepared to take action against the Dangote Group, adding that she was ready to face any consequence “until they did right” by her family.
She also wrote on social media:

Omo nothing wey anybody wan tell me Dangote groups first crushed her dreams and then they crushed her legs, and then they gambled with her life and they they finally gave instructions she should be killed, cuz they know its cheaper for the person to just die than flying them to a good hospital bcuz tell me why I was ignored for 6days, they now later replied that I should bring certificate fit to travel, that’s on 28, and on 29th y’all sent ur insurance to go pay bill at irrua (which he still didn’t do) and then on 31st, at 6:30am they said she died…
All said and done, my sister is dead now, as humans in that company this is not time to forge letter that my father did not write and say he wrote it. Instead of u people to be sending baby food first, milk, pampers etc for a baby y’all killed his mother, a child that’s still breastfeeding that u people killed his mother, a whole big company like this, u people are going about posting fucking statements filled with lies…
It’s October 1st. A new month without Ruth, by this time Ruth would have called me to ask what’s the plan for Benard’s birthday which is tomorrow, October 2nd… Ruth’s first child will be 6 YEARS OLD tomorrow… Oh Nigeria has taken my shining light away.”
In her official statement, Phyna also refuted claims by the Dangote Group that it had covered all hospital bills and planned to fly Ruth abroad for treatment.
Her statement reads:
“It has come to my attention that the Dangote Group released a statement claiming that they paid Ruth’s hospital bills in full and had plans to fly her to India for treatment.
Let me make this clear:
THEIR STATEMENT IS FALSE AND MISLEADING.
The only financial contribution made by the Dangote Group was to Lagoon Hospital— and that is where their involvement ended. They did not pay any hospital bills outside of Lagoon. They did not take responsibility for Ruth’s continued care. They did not make or confirm any arrangements to fly her to India.
If they claim otherwise, they should provide:
– Hospital payment records beyond Lagoon,
– Proof of any travel arrangements,
– Documented communication regarding international treatment.
None exist—because no such efforts were made.
This is not a misunderstanding. This is a false public narrative being pushed to score goodwill off someone’s suffering.
I will not allow Ruth’s condition to be used for image laundering.
For the public record:
– The only bill they covered was at Lagoon Hospital.
– They have made no payments elsewhere.
– There were no real plans to take Ruth abroad for treatment.
Anything beyond these facts is a fabrication.
If this falsehood is not corrected, I will take further steps to protect Ruth’s dignity and ensure accountability.
Do not claim what you did not do. Human life is not a PR strategy.
