The Dangote Group has refuted reports linking it to the truck involved in a tragic accident that claimed at least ten lives near the main gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State.
Recall Dockaysworld reported that the incident occurred when a truck loaded with cement lost control and crashed into shops along the Owo–Akungba–Ikare expressway. The crash, which happened close to the university gate, left several people dead on the spot.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that preliminary investigations showed the truck suffered brake failure before ramming into the barricade in front of the school.
In a statement on Thursday, Dangote Industries described reports attributing the truck to the company as false and misleading. The firm stated that verified registration records show that the vehicle, identified by plate number JJJ 365 XB, belongs to an independent logistics company unaffiliated with Dangote Group.
According to the company, the truck was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks bearing assorted brand names, not any Dangote products. All genuine Dangote trucks, it explained, are distinctively branded, carry specific fleet numbers, and are tracked and operated by trained drivers under strict safety protocols.
While expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and those affected by the tragedy, the company urged media outlets and the public to verify information before linking any incident to its operations.
Dangote Group also advised journalists to refrain from using images of its branded trucks in reports unrelated to the company, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to road safety and responsible corporate conduct across Nigeria and beyond.

Dangote Group has refuted reports circulating on social media and in some online platforms linking it to a truck involved in a road accident in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The company wishes to make it categorically clear that the truck involved in the unfortunate incident does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.
Verified vehicle registration details confirm that the truck with Plate No. JJJ 365 XB, is owned and operated by an independent logistics company with no affiliation to Dangote Group. For the avoidance of doubt, the truck was not conveying any Dangote products but was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks bearing various brand names.
Dangote Industries maintains a strict policy on fleet management and vehicle identification, ensuring that all its trucks are properly branded, tracked, and operated by trained personnel under rigorous safety and compliance standards. For clarity, all genuine Dangote trucks carry distinct company markings and fleet numbers, making them easily identifiable.
While the company deeply sympathises with all those affected by the incident, it urges members of the public and the media to verify information before attributing ownership or involvement to Dangote Group.
