The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has distanced himself from allegations that he was involved in pressuring the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, to resign, Dockaysworld reports.
The report, which surfaced over the weekend, claimed that top security officials, including Olukoyede and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, held a discreet meeting with the NNPC boss in Abuja where he was allegedly compelled to sign a resignation letter.
It was also alleged that the meeting was influenced by concerns surrounding Ojulari’s purported links to a UK-based oil executive said to wield growing influence in the administration. Further claims suggested that President Bola Tinubu’s inner circle was displeased with Ojulari over his alleged dealings with an associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Reacting, Olukoyede denied the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to the integrity of the EFCC. He demanded a retraction and public apology within 48 hours from the media outlet that published the report.
According to the Commission, the claims are without basis and constitute a deliberate attempt to undermine the credibility of the agency and mislead the public.
