The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Aminu Tambuwal, immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, Dockaysworld reports.
Tambuwal, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023 and is a known ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, arrived at the EFCC around 11:30 a.m. amid allegations of fraudulent cash withdrawals totalling ₦189 billion.
The anti-graft agency is investigating the transactions for breaches of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment on the ongoing probe.
Tambuwal is a member of the coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which aims to challenge and unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
