The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released an official statement regarding the case of Martins Innocent Otse popularly known as Very Dark Man.
The anti-graft agency revealed that it invited Martins Innocent Otse for questioning regarding multiple petitions alleging financial misconduct, but he refused to comply despite several invitations sent to his known addresses.
In a statement on Tuesday morning, the EFCC disclosed that the petitions raised against Otse involve serious allegations that could not be ignored.
While the Commission is aware of the suspect’s public attacks on its operations, it clarified that his arrest was not motivated by these remarks but rather by the gravity of the financial crimes under investigation.
The EFCC further stated that it has the legal right to detain Otse, having obtained a valid Remand Order.
Otse has been granted administrative bail and will be released once he fulfills the required conditions.
The Commission also acknowledged the strong public interest and reactions to its operations, urging that insinuations about its motives be refrained from, allowing the EFCC to carry out its duties without interference.
The EFCC assured that once investigations are concluded, appropriate charges will be filed.
