A disagreement has erupted within the United Kingdom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a controversial endorsement of the party’s National Secretary, Dr Ajibola Basiru, for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The endorsement was announced by a faction led by the APC UK Chairman, Hon Tunde Doherty, and the Secretary, Dr Momoh Obaro.
They also pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
However, the Deputy Youth Leader of the chapter, Tunmise Ajiboye, has challenged the endorsement, saying it does not reflect the collective decision of the APC UK chapter.
He clarified that while some members gathered over the weekend and released a video supporting Tinubu’s agenda, they never met formally to back Basiru for governor.
Ajiboye described the endorsement as misleading and insisted that it was a personal move by a few individuals, not the entire chapter.
He warned that presenting the opinion of a few as the voice of the whole party could damage relationships with other potential candidates and harm the image of the APC UK chapter if Basiru does not eventually become the party’s flag bearer.
He called the move a “ruse” and cautioned against promoting personal political preferences as official party decisions.
