EPL GW3 stats: Van dijk finally beaten, KDB sets new assist record, late drama at old Trafford

The Premier League returned in scintillating style this weekend, with numerous talking points across the top flight.

There was late drama at Old Trafford, a landmark appearance for a Manchester City legend and a rare lapse if you can call it that  by a Liverpool defender.

7 – Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in seven goals in his six Premier League appearances against Arsenal (five goals, two assists), scoring in all four of his home games against them. Dominated.

13 – Only Sergio Agüero (16) and Sadio Mané (15) have scored more Premier League goals than Ashley Barnes (13) in 2019. Streak.

21 – Tammy Abraham (21y 326d) is the third youngest player to score twice in a Premier League game for Chelsea, after Mark Nicholls v Coventry in January 1998 (20y 225d) and Eddie Newton v Tottenham in December 1992 (20y 358d). Bracing.

96:55 – Raul Jimenez‘s goal after 96 minutes and 55 seconds was the latest scored in the Premier League since January 2017, when Alexis Sanchez scored a penalty after 97 minutes and 14 seconds for Arsenal against Burnley. Drama.

11 – Raheem Sterling has scored 11 goals in all competitions versus Bournemouth; more than he has against any other opponent in his career. Routine.

50 – Kevin De Bruyne has now made 50 assists in the Premier League, achieving this milestone in the fewest appearances of any player in the competition’s history (123). Exquisite.

50 – Nicolas Pepe has become the first player to successfully dribble past Virgil van Dijk in the Dutch defender’s last 50 appearances in the Premier League, since Mikel Merino in March 2018 for Newcastle. Beaten.

9 – Trent Alexander-Arnold has assisted nine goals in his last 10 appearances at Anfield for Liverpool in all competitions, including assisting once in each of his last five competitive home games. Delivery.

155 – No Premier League fixture has seen more goals than matches between Liverpool and Arsenal (155 goals in 54 games). Glut.

90 – Patrick van Aanholt has become only the second ever player to score a 90th minute winner vs Man Utd in the Premier League, after Thierry Henry with Arsenal in January 2007. Van Aanholt is the first to do so in a match at Old Trafford. Incredible.

3 – Manchester United are only the second team to win a penalty in each of their first three matches of a Premier League season, after Chelsea in 2012-13. However, the Blues scored all three of theirs. Wayward.

10 – Teemu Pukki is the 10th player to have scored in each of his first three at premierleague appearances, while only Pavel Pogrebnyak also scored as many as five in his first three in the competition. Command.

15 – Aston Villa have ended a run of 15 Premier League games without a win (W0 D1 L14), with this their first top-flight win since winning 2-0 against Norwich City in February 2016. Overdue.

79.8% – Tottenham had 79.8% possession in their 0-1 defeat to Newcastle; the second-highest figure for a losing side in the Premier League since 2003-04, behind only Liverpool’s 80.4% against Burnley in August 2016. Nullified.

400 – David Silva today made his 400th career appearance for Manchester City, becoming just the 14th different player to do so in the club’s history. Skipper.

12 – Liverpool have won 12 consecutive Premier League games, their best-ever winning streak in the competition – it has also equalled their longest winning run in league competition (12 between April-October 1990 under Kenny Dalglish). Victorious.
