Fayemi to reportedly contest senatorial seat

Former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, is reportedly gearing up to contest for the Ekiti North Senatorial District in the 2027 election.

This is after he failed to bag any appointment with the Tinubu administration.

According to Western Post, Fayemi is moving to replace Senator Cyril Fasuyi who presently represents the senatorial district in the National Assembly.

Both of them are members of the governing All Progressives Congress.

A source told Western Post that he had begun calling meetings of his ‘boys’ and oiling his machinery for the election.

“One of such meetings held about two weeks ago in his country-home in Isan-Ekiti.”

The former Ekiti State governor, who was also Minister of Solid Minerals in President Muhammadu Buhari regime before he resigned to contest for his second term in office as governor, is keeping the senatorial ambition a closely guarded secret.

If elected as Senator, his victory may likely herald his return to take full control of Ekiti State politics.

Fayemi played an important role in the build-up to the emergence of President Tinubu on the saddle on May 29, 2023, but he has yet to be compensated with any appointment.
