Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted widespread rumors about his health, saying reports that he was ill were untrue.
Wike spoke on Thursday at the official flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1, linking Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja.
His appearance marked his first major public outing in recent times, after being away from public view and sparking speculation about his wellbeing.
Speaking at the event, the minister explained that his absence was due to a vacation, not illness.
“While I was away on vacation, I read rumors on social media, saying I was sick, I had a heart attack. It is my prayer that I will sign their condolences,” Wike said.
He also criticized the trend of politicizing personal matters in Nigeria, adding:
“In this country, we play politics with everything. This is a place where someone will call Mr. President a criminal and nothing will happen. You’re lucky you have a President that believes in the rule of law.”
