A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died following an accident during a tactical demonstration in the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident occurred during a “show of force” exercise by the Corps’ Female Strike Force, also known as the Female Squad, and was captured in a 58-second video that went viral on social media on Saturday.
The death of the officer was confirmed by NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, in a telephone conversation with The Cable on Saturday afternoon.
He said a detailed statement would be issued to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
In the video seen by Dockaysworld, a black operational van with red wheels bearing the inscription “Female Squad” was moving alongside another van marked “Female Strike Force FCT Command.”
During a turn, the lead vehicle ran over a female officer, pinning her underneath it.
The footage showed other NSCDC officers and bystanders rushing to the scene and lifting the van to rescue the trapped officer before she was taken away in an ambulance.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased officer had not been made public.
