The Federal Government has issued a nationwide warning over expected heavy rainfall that may cause flooding in 19 states and 76 locations between August 5 and August 9, 2025.
The alert came from the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment.
The forecast follows fresh cases of flooding in Ogun and Gombe states, where streets, buildings, and vehicles were submerged after heavy rain on Tuesday.
Other affected states included Lagos, Delta, Plateau, and Anambra.
The warning listed areas in Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Cross River, Nasarawa, Benue, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Jigawa, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Borno, and Gombe as flood-prone during the period.
Nigeria has already experienced several deadly flood events this year.
In Mokwa, Niger State, over 200 people reportedly died in May, and thousands were displaced after a dam collapse worsened the disaster.
Rivers State also suffered landslides and flash floods, killing at least 25 people.
In April, Kwara State and parts of Mokwa lost 13 residents to flooding, with many rice farms destroyed after a water release from the Jebba Dam.
