Former Bayelsa Military governor slumps, dies


Former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (rtd) is dead.

He died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 70.

He passed away in Apapa, Lagos, after collapsing while playing lawn tennis.

Mr. Olubolade had gone to a facility on his own to play tennis that evening.

While on the court, he suddenly slumped.

People nearby, including medical personnel, tried to revive him, but their efforts did not succeed.

He was then rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa, where he was confirmed dead.

He was born in Ipoti-Ekiti, located in Ekiti State, and turned 70 on November 30, 2024.

During his lifetime, he served the country in several roles.

He was appointed Bayelsa State’s military administrator between June 1997 and July 1998.

Years later, he also held key positions in government under former President Goodluck Jonathan, including Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and Minister of Police Affairs.

His family has said that burial plans will be made known at a later time.
