The wife to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Dame Patience has been ordered by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos to forfeit about N12 billion Naira to the Federal Government.
The sum was a combination of $8.4m and N9.2bn which cumulated in the forfeited N12bn.
Justice Olatoregun made the judgement on the 1st of July as she deduced that the large sums are possibly as a result of illegal means.
She granted an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that the money should be permanently forfeited.
The judge held that Mrs Jonathan could not prove that the money was legitimately earned.
Mrs Jonathan’s lawyer, Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), had held that the money in question were cash gifts the former first lady received from well wishers while her husband, Goodluck Jonathan, was in office.
Meanwhile the EFCC have rolled out a detailed list of forfeited sums by the former First Lady.
