Former presidential candidate backs Peter Obi’s one-term presidency

Former presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, has thrown his support behind Peter Obi’s plan to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.

Dockaysworld reports that Utomi said a one-term presidency could help prevent leaders from wasting time and resources over eight years in office.

Speaking on BusinessDay Television, Utomi explained that Obi has long advocated for a single-term, rotational presidency across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

He described the idea as practical, noting it would allow new thinking to emerge more frequently in leadership.

Utomi argued that two-term presidencies often allow non-performing leaders to remain in power, delaying progress and harming the country.

He said adopting a one-term system would encourage leaders to act decisively and avoid stagnation.

He made it clear that his support is based on the merits of the idea, rather than just because it comes from Obi.

Utomi suggested that after four or five years, it is better to allow new leaders to bring fresh solutions to governance.
