Former Super eagles captain John Mikel Obi, has revealed Spanish football club FC Barcelona were also lurking for his signature in 2006 before his move to Chelsea.
Mikel was a subject of an international transfer war in 2006 between English giants Manchester united and Chelsea.
Mikel himself revealed the Catalan club were a silent participant in the now infamous battle and were even willing to bring him to La Liga.
it was also the year (2006) Current Balloon D’or winner Lionel Messi broke into the Catalans first team.
Speaking to reporters, Mikel obi revealed:
“I had Barca waiting to pounce if the legal wrangle couldn’t be sorted, but felt obliged to sign for Chelsea as they’d looked after me.”
