Barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu met grieving families of victims of the Angwan Rukuba killings in Jos, another attack has claimed lives in Plateau state.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Plateau command, Alfred Alabo, said he was in a meeting and would get back shortly. However, he had not done so as of press time.
According to Daily Trust, at least three persons were shot dead on Friday night when armed men invaded Nyango Gyel community in Jos South Local Government Area, firing sporadically before fleeing the scene.
The latest killings come just a day after Tinubu, during a brief meeting with victims’ families at Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos, assured that such attacks would not reoccur. “To the victims, there is nothing I can give you, whether in billions of naira, but I can console you and promise that this experience will not repeat itself,” he had said.
Reacting to the incident, the Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, condemned the attack, describing it as senseless violence against innocent people.
“This cycle of attacks on our rural communities must stop. We call on security agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant. “We urge heightened vigilance among residents of rural communities in Jos South, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas,” he added.
