FRSC reveals cause of road accident involving Anthony Joshua 


The Federal Road Safety Corps has disclosed the cause of the road accident involving Anthony Joshua which occurred in Ogun State.

According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations showed that the crash was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking. 

The Corps said the Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and rammed into a stationary truck that was properly parked by the roadside.

The accident happened around noon in the Sinoma area near Sagamu and involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN and a red commercial Sinotruck with an unknown registration number.

FRSC officials confirmed that five adult males were involved in the crash. Two persons died at the scene, one person sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Joshua was rescued alive and suffered only minor injuries.

Unconfirmed reported indicate that Joshua’s two close friends who were foreign nationals were the casualties of the crash. 

The injured victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu. 

The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was also notified for further investigation and documentation.

The FRSC stated that its operatives arrived at the scene within three minutes of receiving the distress call, carrying out rescue operations, evacuating victims, and managing traffic to prevent secondary crashes.

The FRSC reiterated its warning to motorists against excessive speed and dangerous overtaking, describing both as major contributors to fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways, particularly on high-speed corridors such as the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
