Gunmen abduct 28 travellers in Plateau state


At least 28 travellers have been abducted by gunmen in Zak community, Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The victims, including men, women and children, were travelling from Zak village to Sabon Layi on Sunday night for an Islamic event when they were attacked around 8:00pm. Local sources said the group included two princes and a religious leader.

According to Premium Times, the gunmen ambushed the travellers on the outskirts of the community, abducted all the passengers and abandoned their vehicle by the roadside.

Residents raised the alarm on Monday after the vehicle was discovered. Efforts to locate the victims or contact the abductors have so far failed, while security agencies have been informed.

Police spokesperson Alabo Alfred could not be reached for comment.

The incident adds to rising cases of kidnapping and violent attacks across Plateau State in recent weeks.
