Gunners caretaker boss urges Arsenal board to appoint permanent manager after Man City trashing

Freddie Ljungberg urged Arsenal’s board to make a decision over a permanent boss after the Gunners slumped to a dismal defeat at home to Manchester City.

The Kevin De Bruyne-inspired visitors raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time of the clash at the Emirates Stadium, with the brilliant Belgian scoring twice and teeing up another goal for Raheem Sterling.

There were no further City goals in the second half, but that didn’t do anything to lighten the mood among home fans, many of whom booed Mesut Ozil when he was substituted just before the hour mark.

The match was interim boss Ljungberg’s fifth in charge since replacing Unai Emery at the end of last month, and he has now told the club’s board to act.

“I’m very honoured to do this, but I’ve told the club that it needs to be cleared up and that they need to make a decision – regardless of what that is,” said Ljungberg after the match.

Elaborating on the game, he added: “We tried to keep the ball and be the Arsenal we want to be.

“The problem was the transitions, they scored on the counter.

De Bruyne is a fantastic player but when they start like that it’s very difficult to get going again and I felt we got low and
they got confident..

“I said to the players at half-time it was about pride, you need to show some heart out there and show that you’re proud.”
