Following uproar about the court mandated wedding between popular TikTok comedian Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira ‘Yar Guda, the Kano State Hisbah Board has made a U-turn and announced a cancellation.
The board attributed the decision to controversies and unresolved issues surrounding the ceremony.
Dockaysworld gathered that the decision followed widespread social media debates questioning aspects of the marriage said to contradict Islamic marital principles.
Recall that a Kano magistrate court had earlier ordered the couple to marry within 60 days after their viral videos were deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Halima Wali, ruled that the clips violated the state’s moral and religious values and directed the Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage.
The development has since sparked mixed reactions online, with videos showing Mai Wushirya admitting he had earlier agreed to proceed with the ceremony despite earlier warnings.
Confirming the cancellation, the Deputy Commander of Special Operations at the Hisbah Board, Mujahedeen Aminuddeen Abubakar, said an investigation revealed that the couple intended to go ahead with the wedding to avoid pending legal matters.
He said the board’s intervention became necessary to prevent potential conflict and ensure peace between the parties.
He added that the case has been referred to the appropriate court for further action.
“After our investigation, we discovered that the proposed marriage was not based on mutual understanding but rather an attempt to evade legal consequences. The board, therefore, resolved to cancel the wedding to avoid further misunderstanding,” he said.
