INEC Confirms That 16 Parties Submitted Governorship Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that sixteen political parties have successfully submitted their candidates’ nomination forms for the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election.

The submissions were made through the commission’s dedicated portal before the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, following the completion of party primaries.

According to INEC, the personal details of each candidate and their running mate submitted through Form EC9 along with academic and other relevant documents have been displayed at the State Headquarters and in all 21 Local Government Area offices across Anambra.

This action is in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the official timetable for the election.

INEC urged members of the public to carefully examine the documents submitted by the candidates.

The commission stated that any aspirant who participated in a party primary and has valid reasons to believe that a candidate provided false information can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court, as outlined in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act.

The final list of candidates is expected to be published on June 9, 2025, at least 150 days before the election, in compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act.

The Anambra State Governorship Election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
