Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied any connection to a widely circulated Instagram post suggesting he’s gearing up for the 2027 presidential election.
The post, on an account using his name, harshly criticized Nigeria’s current leaders, saying they’re “pretending to sleep” and urged people to “pray that we will get our good leadership back in 2027.”
It featured an AI-looking image of Jonathan shaking hands with former US President Donald Trump, and background music.
The post garnered over 16,000 views and more than 1,200 comments.
Jonathan’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, told TheCable on Friday that the former president does not use Instagram and is not behind the post.
“Former President Jonathan does not own an Instagram account,” he clarified.
This isn’t the first time Jonathan has had to distance himself from unauthorised political messages.
Ahead of the 2023 elections, he rejected a nomination form bought in his name by a support group under the APC banner, stating he was unaware of it and had not authorised it.
